Senior Portraits

Your senior photos should be a reflection of who you are and your personality. Your graduation represents an important milestone in your life, these photos are designed to capture this moment. We want to make sure you have all the proper information to make your senior pictures the best ever! These pictures represent you and after four years of hard work, you deserve this!

Each senior portrait studio has it’s own style, Our studio is no different. While other photography studios concentrate on “cutesy” props, We concentrate on you. The background locations are simple and unique, this means that the photo is about you, your personality, and your stuff. After all if you don’t have a personal attachment to an old washtub, why would you want to be photographed in it? Fashion photography is all about lifestyle, simplicity, and letting the subject of the photo speak loud and clear.

I have been working as a digital artist for the last 15 years and best way to describe my photography style is artistic and candid. Before we get started we’ll select 3-5 locations you would like shoot from our list of several dozen locations. Bring at least 3 outfits with you and any props that you might want be photographed with, this can include any sports item or even something as large as your car or truck. Sessions can take up to 4 hours so come prepared. After our session I will create a webpage where you can review every photo, in most cases it will be ready within 24 hours of your shoot. From here find your favorite photos and what photos you would like to have modified to be look vintage, black and white, or given an HDR look. Please visit our Photo Effects & Editing page to learn more about what is included with this package. I will provide examples of these effects applied to a few of your photos when I assemble your review webpage. As an added bonus All photo include free digital touch up to remove blemishes and anything you want modified in the photo.

Deciding what to wear for your senior pictures can be tough. You want to be able to look back and enjoy your senior pictures as a memory of your senior year, which adds so much pressure! Luckily, we have gathered a few tips to help you along the way…

• A nice tan always looks great, but don’t go really dark, plus it can make your skin look oily.

• Don’t change your hair style or color just before your appointment, give it at least two weeks to make sure you are happy with the change and settle.

• White is not the best choice of color for photos, it will make you look heavier than you are and tends to wash out skin complexion. Darker colors are a good choice because they make you look thinner. Sleeves also make your arms look better than tanks.

• Bring a few more outfits than your session calls for and we will help you choose the best looks for you. Make sure you have a variety of color and style. Feel free to mix it up! It’s fun to have clothing options from shorts, and jeans to skirts and leggings; from tunics to t-shirts; and from dress outfits to sweaters and tanks! Most importantly, bring outfits that you feel pretty in and represent YOU!

• Also, bring your favorite outfit – even if Mom hates it. However, bring one outfit that Mom loves – even if you think it’s horrible. This way, everyone is happy and each receives the pictures they want. Be sure to bring at least one outfit with long sleeves because several of our best shots look best with your arms covered.

• We photograph everything such prom dresses, to torn up jeans, winter coats and swim suits. So, bring your stuff – all of it! Accessorize from head to toe, bring your prom dress, your sports jersey, your boyfriends/girlfriends favorite t-shirt; whatever you feel like wearing in your photos! This also includes sporting equipment or hunting gear.

• At the end of the day, always remember the most important tip: Be yourself!

Make-up is an important part of your photo session. Not only does it give a flawless finish, but it also helps highlights eyes, cheeks and lips. We HIGHLY recommend that you have your make-up professionally done, even if you never wear make-up.

We can recommend a make-up artist that is proficient in photo make-up. Even if you don’t normally wear make-up, the team at Sitara Salon and Spa can make you look naturally beautiful. Make-up is EXTREMELY important to the way your finished portraits will look. However, if you choose to do your own make-up, we have broken down the the facial features into a few easy steps!

Glossy, Shiny, Color! Lips are best in reds, berries, and browns. Make a statement byt be careful to maintain contrast. Dark haired girls – darker colors, blondes – lighter colors. Even if you never wear lipstick, a little color goes a long way. As a bare minimum, at least bring lip gloss to put a little shine on your lips for great senior pictures.

Face-
The color of your face should match the neck and shoulders. If anything, go a MAXIMUM of one shade darker. Use a SPF-free moisturizer and foundation to prevent glare and reflections and use a translucent powder to set. Bring extra powder for touch-ups at the studio. Don’t over-do to cover pimples or blemishes. We can easily take care of any those with retouch.

Eyes-
Well groomed eyebrows are a must. Enhance eyelashes with black, waterproof mascara. Dark brown eyeliner is a natural alternative to black and compliments all light shimmery eye shadows. Please do not wear any eye make up with glitter in it – those sparkles take away from the own sparkle in your eyes! We don’t recommend liquid eyeliners of any sort. Bottom liner should not extend to the inside corner of the eye. It closes the eye down making it look smaller than it really is. Stop just past the iris of the eye when looking straight forward.

Cheeks-
Don’t be afraid to have a little color on the apples of the cheekbones (petal pink). It brightens up the appearance of the face and gives a healthy glow.

Nails-
For your senior pictures, paint a clear, neutral, or french tip. If you are going to show your feet, as most girls do, paint your toenails too. Try to stay away from bright colors, though. It will take away the emphasis on your face.

Hair-
We suggest you don’t try a  new style, cut or color just before your session. Go with the style and color you are comfortable with, which is also usually the one that represents you the best. Curly or straight is up to you, but with some of our sessions, you will have time to change in the middle.

No matter what, remember you are BEAUTIFUL and these pictures are well earned! Don’t ruin them with simple mistakes – be you!
